Exemplary privacy protection: wunderloop becomes second company in Europe to gain EuroPriSe certification
Luxembourg, 23 September 2008 - wunderloop’s ongoing commitment to privacy protection and data security has earned it another accolade: wunderloop has become the second European company and first in Germany to be awarded the European Privacy Seal ‘EuroPriSe’. The award was presented at the online marketing düsseldorf tradeshow.
The EuroPriSe project, a consortium of nine partners from eight European countries, led by the Independent Center for Data Security of the Federal German State of Schleswig-Holstein (ULD), has the support of the European Commission. EuroPriSe is the first standardised pan-European certification of IT products and IT-based services founded on European privacy protection laws.
An intensive, two-step and quality-assured review preceded the EuroPriSe certification for wunderloop, Europe’s leading vendor of Integrated Targeting services. The auditors conclude that wunderloop’s Integrated Targeting Platform is exemplary in its protection of privacy and data.
“The EuroPriSe certification means a great deal to us,” comments wunderloop CEO Torsten Ahlers. “It confirms our enduring commitment to privacy protection and, by extension, consumer protection.” Kirsten Bock, manager of the EuroPriSe project, says: “EuroPriSe aims to show consumers which companies play by the rules of privacy protection, in a reliable, transparent and trustworthy way.”
wunderloop and privacy protection technology: background
In marketing, personal information is often used for a more customised approach to customers, a practice that has increasingly been the subject of controversy. Targeting technology by wunderloop differs from this completely in that it collects information about Internet users’ surfing habits but uses no data that could be traced to real persons. Nor does it store any IP addresses users have used to access content. Smart analysis procedures enable assumptions about user traits such as gender and age group. Further, the current interests of an anonymous user can be identified and analysed. This allows wunderloop’s clients to reach their target groups with relevant, real-time advertising or content and product offers.
From the beginning, wunderloop technology has been developed in compliance with all applicable privacy protection laws. The company draws its clients’ attention to existing privacy protection laws and recommends they offer an ‘opt-out’ option even where this is not required by law.
